Webinar Series: Family Involvement in Juvenile Justice

Please join the National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice and the Mental Health and Juvenile Justice Collaborative for Change for a two-part webinar on working with families in the juvenile justice system. These webinars will highlight the family involvement innovations developed by states participating in the MacArthur Foundation's Models for Change Mental Health/Juvenile Justice Action Network.

Part l: November 18, 2014 (1:00-2:00 P.M. ET)
Working with Families will discuss strategies to help juvenile justice systems and staff recognize the value of working with families whose children have behavioral health needs, to better understand the family perspective, and to hone their engagement skills. Model approaches from Pennsylvania and Texas will be featured. Presenters will be:

  • Wendy Luckenbill, Co-chair of the Family Involvement Committee, Pennsylvania Council of Chief Juvenile Probation Officers
  • Tracy Levins, Ph.D., Manager at Prevention and Early Intervention Services of the Texas Juvenile Justice Department

Part ll: December 4, 2014 (2:00-3:00 P.M. ET)
Navigating the Juvenile Justice System will discuss strategies to help families better understand and navigate the juvenile justice system, and access important services. Model approaches from Washington and Illinois will be featured. Presenters will be:

  • Sarah Cusworth-Walker, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at the Division of Public Behavioral Health and Justice Policy at the University of Washington
  • Mathilda de Dios, Program Manager at the Northwestern Children and Family Justice Center in Chicago, Illinois.
