We are looking for presentations on practical and applicable innovative practices which are considered a “best practice”.
Methods for recognizing a “best practice” could include FOCUS PDCA, replication of standards, formal research, etc.

The following are criteria areas to consider:

  • Exemplifies current practices in psychiatric nursing.
  • Emphasizes the application of evidence-based practices.
  • Demonstrates the application of research to practice.
  • Appeals to psychiatric nurses working in a variety of settings.
  • Exhibits performance improvement projects

Topics of interest suggested by RN focus group:

  • Using an adverse event to develop a Best Practice Protocol
  • Applying Best Practices to suicide prevention
  • Use of CBT/DBT in the psychiatric unit
  • Exemplars of Recovery Oriented Practices
  • Innovative interventions to reduce Seclusion and Restraint
  •  Management of co-morbid medical conditions
  • Health promotion efforts such as nutrition & sleep hygiene
  • Best practices in 23 hour care settings.

Upon acceptance of the Abstract, applicant will be required to submit:

  1. Vested Interest Declaration Form (one for each listed Presenter)
  2. Biographical Data Form (one for each listed Presenter)
  3. Education Documentation Form (One for each presentation)

These forms will be provided upon acceptance as a speaker.

Poster Presentations:

  • Posters should not be greater than 3 feet high and 4 feet wide.
  • Must reflect the theme of the conference, “Current Innovative Practices in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing”

All Abstracts will be reviewed and selections will be made by a blinded committee.

Notification of acceptance will be made by December 1, 2013.
