President-Elect
Jenna Birdsell
I am a Child and Adolescent PMHCNS and Pediatric NP practicing in an outpatient, integrated medical home in Springfield, OH. I have special interests in the integration of mental health and physical health; underserved populations; and workplace dynamics (teaching and practicing self-care). I am a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Nursing where I had wonderful experiences at Nationwide Children's Hospital and at OSU Harding on the child and adolescent unit. I am currently a member of the National Health Service Corp practicing in an underserved population. I would like to be considered in this leadership position because I want to be a part of the legacy of nurses serving nurses to improve our patient and self care.

I have over 30 years of experience in psychiatric-mental health nursing. I began my career as a charge nurse for a crisis-stabilization unit in Florida, followed by five years as nurse manager of a large addictions treatment center in Washington State after completing my masters degree at the University of Washington. I relocated to Chicago to teach psychiatric mental health nursing and addictions nursing to pre-licensure and masters students while I completed my PhD at Loyola University. I was certified as an Adult Psychiatric Clinical Specialist and a Certified Addictions Registered Nurse, served as a board member of the International Nurses Society on Addictions, and practiced as an individual, couples, and family therapist. My husband's career brought us to Cincinnati and I spent 12 years teaching psychiatric nursing, addictions nursing, individual and family therapy, and qualitative research to traditional BSN, Accelerated, MSN, and PhD students at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing. I have conducted research and published articles related to addictions, resilience, and narrative remembering. Currently, I am an Associate Professor at the College of Mount St. Joseph teaching psychiatric-mental health nursing, healthcare policy, and professional issues to pre-licensure, MSN, and DNP students. I am eager to network with other nurses in southwest Ohio who are passionate about caring for persons and families affected by mental illness.
