An institute provides direct input to the Board of Directors through the Office of the President on an assigned psychiatric-mental health nursing issue that spans virtually all aspects of the profession. It is similar to a task force except that its mission may require several years to complete, while a task force generally completes its work in about a year. The purpose of an institute is to utilize membership expertise in the development of programs and services aimed at addressing the institute's main focus through a series of chaired workgroups.
