APRN Consensus Model

On July 7, 2008 the APRN Consensus Work Group of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing APRN Advisory Committee issued their report entitled Consensus Model for APRN Regulation for Licensure, Accreditation, Certification and Education.

This is the culmination of work that began in 2004. The goal of the activity was “to reach consensus on the issues surrounding APRN education, practice, accreditation, certification and licensure, and to create a future consensus-based model for APRN regulation”. Advanced practice nurses who provide direct patient care would be licensed and regulated at the role (CRNAs, CNMWs, CNSs, NPs) and population (ie, gender, pediatric, psychiatric/mental health (PMH)) level.
