June 2011 - 3rd Annual State Conference

On June 17, 2011 we successfully held our 3rd Annual State Conference and meeting, in Collaboration with the Office of mental Health Department of Nursing., in beautiful Saratoga Springs NY.  We enjoyed a day of interesting and informative talks from:

  • Michael Hogan, PHD, the NYS Commissioner of Mental Health, who spoke about psychiatric nursing today and its importance in the current healthcare environment.
  • Susan Apold PhD spoke about the latest Institute of Medicine report on Nursing and its implications in the future.
  • Heather Muxworthy shared a review of risk assessments for both suicide and violence
  • Christine Tebaldi PMHNP-BC, Chair of the APNA Institute on mental Health Advocacy spoke of the work of that National committee to monitor and become involved in the organizations that make decisions about our practice
  • Winnie Kennedy PMHCNS-BC, shared her vision for NYS psychiatric nurses and the impact of the IOM report On Nursing on our practice in the future
  • Anthony Ritaccio MD, a neurologist gave an interesting lecture of the almost sci-fi interface of the brain and computer in his work and its implications to practice.

It was a wonderful day for networking as we had a total of 119 psychiatric nurses from across the state in attendance!!
