APNA Suicide Prevention Current Opportunities

Competency Based Training for Suicide Prevention Workshops

A note about safety: APNA recommends strict compliance with state/local and national recommendations, including the Centers for Disease Control, for safety and distancing measures for in-person events, which may include 6 ft of separation between participants and/or wearing masks. Please contact the facility where your training is being held for specific requirements, or your state department of health for local guidance. National guidance can be found here.

APNA reserves the right to make program changes as necessary, and the right to cancel trainings if minimum enrollment has not been met, or events occur beyond the reasonable control of APNA.

APNA PMH Nurse Suicide Prevention Training Renewal Course

If your APNA Suicide Prevention Provider card has expired, don’t worry! You can complete an online-self-paced course to renew and ensure that your practice is safe and current.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss the phenomenology of suicide.
  2. Perform a focused risk assessment.
  3. Document patient level of risk for suicide.
  4. Perform a suicide risk assessment.
  5. Develop a collaborative safety plan.
  6. Discuss environmental safety and risk mitigation.
  7. Understand how to incorporate the APNA Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Essential Competencies for Assessment and Management of Individuals at Risk for Suicide into your practice.

Renew your APNA Suicide Prevention Provider training and get updated information to enrich your nursing practice and competence in skills for suicide prevention, assessment, and care management!

When you complete the full course within 90 days of your registration, you will be able to download and print your new APNA Suicide Prevention Provider card and your NCPD certificate. Your APNA Suicide Prevention Provider card will be active for 3 years, at which point you will have the opportunity to renew with an online course again.
