Two scholarships are available for psychiatric-mental health nursing students in New England!

Dr. Larry Plant Scholarship

Are you a student looking to get more involved in your APNA New England Chapter? Submit an application for the Larry Plant Scholarship! Six scholarships are available to exceptional nursing students in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The scholarship provides one year of APNA student membership and mentorship by APNA New England Chapter Board members. (Recipients must complete the APNA Student Membership process when the scholarship is awarded.) The deadline to submit an application is December 31st. Recipients will be notified in Spring 2020.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time student in a BSN or higher nursing program. Proof of enrollment from the school (ex: letter from Registrar/Dean) is required.
  • Must provide a nomination by an APNA New England Chapter member.
  • Submit an essay (500 words or fewer) addressing the following:
    • Why are you interested in becoming an APNA member?
    • How will APNA membership enhance your nursing career?
    • Your feelings related to volunteering for the APNA New England Chapter.
    • How will your contributions enhance the APNA New England Chapter?

Tom Marland Scholarship

ADN students with an interest in PMH nursing in New England are encouraged to apply for the Tom Marland Scholarship! A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a qualified nurse currently enrolled in an ADN program. The deadline to submit an application is December 31st. The recipient will be notified by January 31st, 2020.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Must be enrolled in an ADN program.
  • Have an interest in psychiatric-mental health nursing.
  • Submit a short essay (500 words or fewer) describing your interest in PMH nursing.
  • Submit 2 letters of recommendation: one from a faculty member and one from a peer or colleague.

About the Chapter

The APNA New England Chapter was founded in 1993. The Chapter is made up of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Our membership is about 860 people. The largest group of members
come from MA. We believe our strength is in bringing all our states together. Read our latest newsletter!




Mission Statement

As psychiatric nurses and members of the New England Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, we collaborate and engage in fellowship to advance psychiatric nursing.


Any APNA member who resides in New England automatically becomes a member of the New England Chapter. If you are interested in joining or renewing your membership, please see the Membership tab on APNA’s home page for more information about the application process and dues.

We have a business meeting at the conference and a second business meeting at the APNA Annual Conference. There are working sessions for the Board of Directors that meet monthly. All members are invited.

The APNA New England Chapter has no dues. Our income comes from:
1. The yearly New England Conference
2. Donations for our Awards are from our members and others.
