Mental Health Parity Updates - January 2015
The Mental Health Liaison Group, of which APNA is a member, is a coalition which monitors mental health policy and provides periodic updates:
Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act Implementation
The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA) Rules for Medicaid Managed Care, CHIP, and Alternative Benefit Plans (CMS-2333-P), are now at the Office of Management and Budget, their review status pending. While a final rule for the MHPAEA was published in the Federal Register in November 2013, the provisions do not apply to Medicaid MCOs, ABPs, or CHIP State plans. These rules propose to address that gap.
New Report: State of Mental Health in America
Mental Health America has released a report, , which ranks all 50 states and the District of Columbia on mental health status and access based on a set of common indicators: how many residents in each state have mental health needs, how many have access to insurance and mental health care, and how many experience difficulty in accessing care. It provides a more complete picture of mental health status in America, as well as a baseline which will help track outcomes of state and federal legislation such as the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act and the Affordable Care Act.
