Robin's Psych Nursing Story
This month, Robin shares her enthusiasm for her chosen profession:
Nursing was not my first pick as far as a profession but it kind of picked me. My parents really wanted me to be a doctor but while in undergrad as a biology major I just started feeling like 'yuck! I really don't want to do this'. And before I knew it I was in the CWRU's FPB [Case Western Reserve University Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing] Doctor of Nursing Program and I was a nurse! and a psychiatric nurse at that.

Now i cannot imagine doing anything else and work in partial hospitalization program and love it. To me psychiatry is primary. I mean where would anyone be without their brain and ability to think? My job as a CNS in the Day Hospital is to help people with mental illness understand their illness, learn to live with it, and become a fully functional person in society with a chronic condition. I love my job, my profession, and the discipline of psychiatry.
