Virtual Nursing Academy APNA Champions for Smoking Cessation

Supporting innovative smoking cessation strategies for the populations we serve.
As a part of our effort to assist psychiatric-mental health nurses in prioritizing and providing evidence-based tobacco dependence interventions, APNA, in partnership with the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center, supported the following members as they implemented promising grassroots smoking cessation initiatives. Each member of the Virtual Nursing Academy received an honorarium of $1,000 and complimentary registration to the APNA 28th Annual Conference, October 22-25, 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Virtual Nursing Academy was highly successful in mobilizing and supporting APNA members to address tobacco dependence across a number of clinical and academic settings. The projects were generally small in scale but impactful locally. As a collective academy, the project’s success is reflected in the fact that it served to catalyze APNA members’ renewed and strengthened interest and efforts in treating tobacco dependence among those living with psychiatric illnesses.
