Frequently Asked Questions

What's the easiest way to get from the Hilton New Orleans Riverside to the Convention Center?
You can walk (0.5 miles) or you can take the conference shuttle. Shuttles will run on a continuous loop between the hotel and convention center during peak conference hours. Shuttle pickup/dropoff at the Hilton is on the first floor between the All That Jazz gift shop and the elevators. Pickup and dropoff at the convention center is at the Transportation Hub. For more information about a session you're attending, click into that session:

If you want to change/add sessions to your schedule, go to Full Schedule in the app and click on the Add button by the session you would like to add. Adding or changing a session in the app does not have any impact on your registration or your evaluations. There are some sessions that are not available for adding because they are full or required advance registration.


Do I have to attend the sessions I signed up for at registration?
You do not have to attend the sessions that you signed up for at registration or added to your schedule in the app. You are free to attend a session of your choice in each time block. We ask that if it’s a session that is full or sold out (Sessions 2011 Pharmacology, 2021 Pharmacology, 2027 Quality Improvement, 2041 Pharmacology, 2051 Pharmacology, 3011 Pharmacology, 3021 Pharmacology, 3025 Substance Use: Opioids, 3042 Inpatient Safety, 3046 Military, 4037 Research), you hang in the back until the people who actually registered for that session have gotten a seat. Then feel free to grab a seat when the session is about to start! Note that there are some sessions that are not available because they required advance registration. In order to earn CE for the session you attend, simply select it on the evaluations site and evaluate it.

Where can I find hard copies of maps, schedules, session learning outcomes, notes pages, and more?

How do I claim contact hours for sessions I attend?
Complete your online evaluations and generate your CE Certificate by November 15th! Find step-by-step instructions here.

Total possible contact hours on-site - If you registered for...

  • Full Conference: 2 CE Certificates = 17.25 Contact Hours
    1 from APNA (15.75 contact hours) + 1 from Symposium (1.5 contact hours)
  • Full Conference + Pre-Conferences = 25.25 Contact Hours
    1 from APNA (23.75 contact hours) + 1 from Symposium (1.5 contact hours)
  • Full Conference + Suicide Prevention Training = 25.25 Contact Hours
    1 from APNA for conference (15.75 contact hours) + 1 from training through APNA eLearning Center (8.0 contact hours) + 1 from Symposium (1.5 contact hours)

Pharmacology Contact Hours: With the pre-conference sessions, you can get 7.5 total psychopharmacology contact hours at the conference. Look for the Rx symbol next to sessions in the program book that are eligible for pharmacology CE.
Poster Presentations: You can earn up to 4.0 contact hours for poster presentations. Contact hours are automatically calculated based on the number of posters you evaluate on the APNA evaluations site. These contact hours are included in the totals above and will appear on your CE Certificate as a part of the total number of contact hours earned.


What should I do if I miss a session I wanted to attend?
Access the online recording 2-3 months after the conference! Since you can’t be in multiple places at once, these podcasts are included with your registration so you can still earn CE for them. We will email you when the podcasts are ready and include instructions for how to order the sessions with a discount code, which will zero out the cost for any conference sessions in your cart. The code can be used as many times as you want, so you can order sessions as they are posted and come back to get more as more are posted. CE will be available for the sessions online individually (each with its own CE Certificate). These certificates are separate from the CE Certificate you will receive from the sessions you attend & evaluate on-site at the conference.

All of the sessions at the conference are being recorded, but there may be a few which cannot be posted, for example if the presenter did not give permission. The suicide prevention training is not being recorded and will not be available as a conference podcast. The conference podcast recordings, along with updated handouts, will be available for purchase as well – if you want to check out a couple of the pre-conference sessions and you didn’t sign up for those on-site, or if you have a friend who couldn’t come.

I didn’t register for the Product Theaters or Symposium session. Can I attend?
There was no registration for the industry sponsored meal sessions: They are available to you on a first-come, first-served basis and do not require an additional fee. There are no tickets and they will not appear as a part of your personalized agenda in the app unless you manually add them in.

CE for Symposium Dinner: The Symposium Dinner on Friday, 8:00pm – 9:30pm will include paper evaluations/CE forms that will be on-site at the end of the symposium. CE evaluations and contact hours for the dinner are given separately from the APNA evaluations and CE Certificate. These session do not appear on the APNA online evaluations website and therefore will not appear on the APNA CE Certificate. APNA does not provide the contact hours for this dinner. The symposium company will collect your forms on-site and your CE Certificate will be emailed to you after the conference (usually 2-3 weeks).

Sponsored Meal Session Locations: Sponsored lunch sessions will be held in the La Nouvelle Orleans Ballroom in the convention center. The sponsored breakfast and dinner sessions will be held at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in the following locations:

Where do I go for a fun taste of Mardi Gras?
Thursday night's Mardi Gras reception in the La Nouvelle Orleans Ballroom brings the Big Easy to you with themed food and drinks, entertainment, and all that jazz. Entrance to this event is included in all full conference registrations. If you are registered for one day only and would like to attend or if you have a guest with you, you can purchase a ticket for $75 at the Registration Desk (on-site area).

Kicking off the event is comedian Pete Lee, followed by a discussion panel exploring the role of humor in forging connections. This will include Pete Lee, plus PMHNP Jamie Plaxco, and our own APNA President Gail Stern. There will be 0.5 contact hours provided for the panel. Then we’ll move into the party with Mardi Gras-themed food, beverages, entertainment, and dancing!

Will there be coffee?
Yes! Coffee service will be provided during select times at the conference to help keep you fueled up and ready to go:

I’m a volunteer. Where can I see what I signed up for?
You can find this info:

  • On-site: A volunteer listing which shows what sessions you are scheduled to volunteer for will be posted on the Information Board near the Registration Desk in the La Nouvelle Orleans Ballroom Foyer.


I’m a session presenter. What do I do with my slides?  Is there a slide review / speaker ready room?
If you sent your slides in to APNA before September 18th, your slides should be pre-loaded onto the laptop in the room where your session will take place. If you have made updates to your slides, please arrive 5-10 minutes early to load the slides onto the laptop in the session room. Please also email the updated version of your slides to Lhoop@apna.org. You can let your session attendees know that the updated handouts will be posted a week or two after the conference. While there is no slide review or speaker ready room, you can get a feel for the room where you will present by checking it out before or after sessions in that room are done for the day.


I'm a poster presenter. When and where is Poster Presenter Set up?
Poster Presenters can set up their posters on Thursday morning, 7:00am – 10:00am in Exhibit Hall E, Poster Area. Tacks will be available for you to use when hanging your poster. Posters need to be up by 10am on Thursday. You will receive an email with your Poster #, which coincides with the board where your poster should be hung (#s at top right of the board). You can also check the poster listing in your program book (behind the posters tab) for your poster number.


How can I find out info about things to do (or places to eat) in New Orleans?
The convention center’s New Orleans On the Town Concierge will be available in Exhibit Hall E Foyer during these hours:
