APNA Bylaws Amendments

You – APNA members – told us that you want more opportunities to be involved in leadership roles at the National level, and that you would like more services to support APNA Chapters in advancing the goals of APNA on a local level. We hear you! That’s why the Board of Directors proposed the below amendments to the APNA bylaws. These amendments were passed on January 22, 2018, with 96% of voters voting in favor of them. Amendments Overview

  • Increase Opportunities for Member Participation at a National Level - 3-Year Terms for Members of the Board of Directors
     
    • Previously, a Board of Directors member served a 2-year term, and may serve for 2 consecutive terms without sitting out for any length of time in between terms
      • This allowed for a 4-year tenure on the BOD.
    • The change to a 3-year term allows for board positions to come up for election more frequently.
      • Board members who wish to run for office again will be required to sit out the process for at least one year.

  • Enhanced Support for Chapters in their work at the Local Level - APNA Chapters Officially Self-governed, Internal Divisions of APNA
     
    • Enables APNA to perform increased services for the Chapters
      • This in turn results in improvements in Chapter processes & operations, communications, visibility, sustainability, financial security, and leadership roles.
      • Services include: Financial services, liability coverage, increased staff support, and more

Voting Outcome

Voting took place via a Special Meeting on January 22, 2018 at 9:30am Eastern at the APNA National Office, 3141 Fairview Park Drive, Suite 625, Falls Church, VA.  Members submitted proxy votes to Secretary Joyce Shea via online and mailed ballots. A quorum was met and 96% of members who cast a vote, voted in favor of the amendments. The changes were therefore approved.
