This month we would like to welcome a brand new APNA member and highlight the unique way she came to join APNA. Darlene Cadigan, RN, a New Jersey native, has been in nursing for over 30 years.
A Meeting of the Minds in California
“It was a good day to be a psych nurse,” says California Chapter President Jolie Browar of the 17th Annual Meeting of the Minds. On May 10th over 1100 mental health professionals and consumers gathered in Orange County for this conference. The Meeting of the Minds works to promote community awareness and improve the quality of life for mental health consumers.

2010 Award for Innovation ~ Chapter
“I want to be an advocate for those with mental health, behavioral, and chemical dependency issues,” wrote Arkady Millard, this year's recipient of the Minnesota Chapter’s Student Scholarship. “I want to create awareness of these issues that many individuals face, and break down the barriers that exist that prevent them from seeking treatment.”

In order to encourage nursing students to enter the field of psychiatric nursing, the Minnesota Chapter recently instituted a yearly scholarship to its annual conference.
