Now Updated! APNA Violence Prevention Position

The issue of violence prevention across settings and communities is complex and requires interprofessional and multi-faceted strategies. Updated by subject matter experts from the APNA Council for Safe Environments and approved by the APNA Board of Directors, this revised position affirms PMH nurses’ expertise and key roles in violence prevention.

“The members who worked on this update are thrilled that the board approved the APNA Violence Prevention Position Paper! The key areas we elaborated on in this update emphasize that:

(1) Nurses across all specialties and settings are uniquely positioned to recognize, prevent, and respond to violence in its many forms and
(2) Patient-centered, relationship-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented practices are an integral element of violence prevention.”
