Charge
Draft an APNA position that speaks to the role of psychiatric-mental health nurses in the mental health care of detained persons.
Guidance
- Align the position with the APNA Position Paper Process and Guidelines, including the use of inclusive and non-stigmatizing language
- Ensure a broad focus across the various groups included (e.g. people who are incarcerated or detained, people who have been displaced or seek asylum, etc.)
- Conduct a literature review to incorporate the most current evidence available
- Draw upon the most current understandings of trauma informed perspectives, social determinants of health, and cultural humility
- Ensure that the position is rooted in the PMH Nursing: Scope & Standards of Practice
