Program Materials to Submit by August 10

Provided via the abstract submission site by August 10.

Submitting your materials by this deadline is required for all sessions. These materials must be reviewed by an APNA Nurse Educator to ensure that they meet requirements for nursing continuing professional development contact hours (e.g. appropriate permissions and citations).

  • Know yourself… build in time for questions and communication with education staff before the deadline!
  • Carefully review the copyright and permissions information to ensure you don’t violate copyright laws.
  • Remember your materials are more than a PowerPoint – each item you submit helps you craft a presentation that delivers high quality nursing professional development.

Educational Design

This is an online form composed of the following fields:

  • Identified gaps: Gap to be addressed by this activity: Knowledge (what nurses do not know).
  • Current state: Describe the identified knowledge gap related to your topic.  What problem or opportunity exists in practice that your presentation will address?  Ex: PMH nurses lack understanding of….
  • Desired state: Describe how your presentation will help narrow or close this professional practice gap. Describe what knowledge participants will gain.  Ex: PMH nurses will gain knowledge related to…
  • Learner engagement: Describe the active learning strategies that you will use in your activity to promote learning and actively engage learners (e.g., think-pair-share exercises, reflection, polling, discussion).

Measurable Learning Outcome
What you enter in this field is what learners will use to evaluate your session and will be listed on the evaluation site.

  • Outcome addresses: Select nursing professional development, patient outcomes, or other.
  • One learning outcome for evaluation: Automatically populated with the learning outcome in your abstract. You can change or edit it, but remember that your learning outcome should:
    • Complete the following sentence: Upon completion of this presentation, participants will be able to…
    • Start with a verb (capitalized), and end with a period.
      Example: Identify two gaps within the working relationship between acute care hospitals and law enforcement.
    • Reflect on what the target audience (RN/APRN) will know after attending the presentation. 
    • Be achievable and measurable. We recommend using Bloom’s Taxonomy action verbs

These takeaways help you and learner connect the presentation content to the measurable learning outcome. List 1-2 key points that your content will address to help learners achieve the learning outcome for your session.

Example: If your session topic is the role of a PMH Nurse in health promotion, the learning outcome and takeaways might look like the following:

Enter at least 3 evidence-based references used to develop your presentation.

  • References should be from within the last 5 years
  • There is space for up to 5, but only 3 are required.

Keywords

  • Keywords/Search Terms: Enter 3 keywords for your presentation. These keywords will help learners find your session when it is posted in the APNA eLearning Center. Examples: psychopharmacology, substance use, recovery, adolescents, bipolar disorder, etc.

Slides & Handouts

Upload the following files (up to 10, up to 500MB/file):

  • Your slides as a PowerPoint (.ppt) file. (More info on creating your slides)
    • APNA will use your slides to make a pdf handout (3 or 6 slides/page) for attendees.
    • If you need to include content in your live presentation slides but not in the handout (e.g. if you have material included that can’t be released, or if you have received permission for a chart, graph, comic, etc. only for the live presentation), upload 2 versions of your PowerPoint and label “slides for presentation” and “slides for handouts”.
  • Word document of your references.
  • Any additional handouts, such as a case study, for attendees.

Permissions

Upload up to 10 documents indicating all permissions you’ve received for logos, charts, images, etc. in your presentation materials. Copyrighted images without permissions will be removed from slides.

Step-By-Step Walkthrough

 

  • Sign in using your APNA username and password. If you don’t remember your username and/or password, contact APNA at 855-863-2762.
  • You will be brought to your submitter portal and should see your final abstract submission(s) listed. Click the eyeball or pencil icon beside the abstract and then click the blue “Edit” button in the top right corner.

When you click into your session, you will see this menu:

Upload up to 10 documents indicating all permissions you’ve received for logos, charts, images, etc. in your presentation materials.If you received permission via an email, we recommend pasting the email into a word document and uploading that.

Slides & Handouts Upload

Upload up to 10 files (no more than 20 MB per file). Remember, your slides should be uploaded as a .ppt file.


Final Submission

Once you have completed all the sections, verify that you are ready to submit and click the green “Submit” button.
