Enchantment Awaits at the APNA 37th Annual Conference

After the enormous task of reading hundreds of abstract submissions and sorting sessions into topic areas, the Chair and Associate Chair of the APNA Scholarly Review Committee (SRC) feel confident they have helped craft something magical: an education program that will enlighten all PMH nurses and speak to the unique needs of those you serve.
“Submitters heard the message,” extolls SRC Associate Chair Kelly Bryant, MS, BSN, NPD-BC, NEA-BC, referring to an appeal to submitters to submit abstracts that would carry out the conference theme: Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses: Novel IDEAS Moving Whole Health Forward—Inclusion. Diversity. Equity. Access. de-Stigmatization.
According to Bryant, “The APNA 37th Annual Conference will be an immersive learning opportunity. It will challenge us to reflect on our current practice and think beyond to the future to how psychiatric-mental health nurses can best care for diverse populations.”
SRC Chair Patricia Mulvaney-Roth, MSN, APRN, PMHCNS-sBC, ACNS, observed common themes emerging as she read the abstracts accepted for presentation. “Attendees can look forward to increasing their competency around areas such as diversity, cultural humility, marginalized populations, pregnancy/perinatal issues, substance use disorder, simulation, increased student engagement, and resilience for patients, students, and staff,” says Mulvaney-Roth.
The APNA Scholarly Review Committee peer reviews submitted Annual Conference abstract proposals. A system of scores and comments is used to determine what pre-conference sessions, concurrent sessions, mini concurrent sessions, and poster presentations will be in the program.
“This year’s topics have a wide appeal to all nurses – in practice, education, advanced practice, or administration and will inform on best practices and evidence to support alternative approaches to care and service delivery,” says Bryant. “The location of this year’s conference is amazing and magical! We will have the opportunity to connect – to learn – to engage – to renew.”
