APNA Telemental Health Toolkit

Virtual care has come to encompass an umbrella of terms describing care that is delivered at a distance using technological tools. Terms such as telemedicine, telehealth, virtual health, telepsychology, and telepsychiatry among others have been used to define this process.

Psychiatric mental health nurses are at the forefront of virtual care for patients across several clinical environments. This is additionally outlined in the psychiatric-mental health nursing scope and standards of practice, Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice 3rd Edition (2022).
